I
would love to receive letters from you!! Packages would also be welcome, but
not necessary since I know how expensive they can get. Mail usually takes about
3 weeks to get here (according to the man in the post office, but I have a
feeling packages take longer).
Here's
my address:

Here
are some tips to make sure everything gets to me:
·
Make
sure to write airmail on all letters and packages
·
Packages
sometimes get opened and stuff gets stolen, so I've been told by current PCVs
that writing "God Bless you" and/or bible verses on the packages
ensures that packages won't be opened.
Try to make the package look official and/or religious.
·
Be
as general as possible on customs forms. Write things like education material,
hygiene products, etc. to decrease the chance of search.
·
If
you can send stuff in a padded envelope instead of a flat rate box do it, it's
cheaper.
·
Put
food in a Ziploc bag.
Here's
a list of things I would love (but honestly anything from America will be
greatly appreciated)
·
peanut
m&ms
·
pop
tarts (hot fudge sundae kind)
·
chocolate
chip cookies
·
granola
bars
·
dried
fruit
·
trail
mix
·
gummy
candy (gummy bears/worms, sour patch kids, etc.)
·
books
·
magazines
·
sugar
free gum
·
brownie/blueberry
muffin mix (so all I have to add is water)
·
anything
sweet
·
deodorant
·
toothpaste
Hi Helena,
ReplyDeleteI'm a teacher, farmer and social entrepreneur who has just been offered a position working in Butajira starting January 2015. I was wondering if I could start a conversation over email regarding what to pack and what your experience has been like as a young woman there. If you could email me at christina (at) permaculture4peace.org , that would be really wonderful. I look forward to hopefully running in to you in person in a month's time! Thank you : ) Christina Z
Helena!
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here on my second day of summer vacay and felt a need to investigate into the lives of my beloved friends back in Ethiopia. After reading your post about COS, I felt overwhelmed with pride, joy, and sheer amazement for you. Please bask in your accomplishment and never forget the inner strength you possess! I would love to reconnect and hear more about your journey if you are ever in the NYC or CT area. I wish you the best of luck in your final weeks and return back home <3 Christine
