I've made it into the Peace Corps!! Finally! After a year long application process, getting accepted into the organization feels like a huge accomplishment. Now the journey begins! My official job description is in ITELE which stands for Improving the Teaching of English Language in Ethiopia. The purpose of this project is to enhance the proficiency and use of English language and improve English teaching within the program of English education in primary schools and Colleges of Teacher Education (CTE). Basically, this means that I will be training Ethiopian teachers on how to teach English. I will be working in Butajira (about 130km from Addis Ababa).
I arrived in Ethiopia on July 3rd, 2013. If all goes well I will be in country until September 2015. This blog serves to detail the adventures and challenges of being a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia for my family, my friends, and anyone interested in international development and/or joining the Peace Corps. I hope you enjoy it and if there's anything that I don't write about that you'd like me too, please send me an email. Happy reading!!
